Sanju - One Man... Many Lives
Every coin has two sides, but only one side can be
viewed at a time. Sanju is a story of the other side of that coin which was not
shown to the world or I can say, the world was so busy that they only cared
about the one side. Sanju is one of the most awaited film of the year which
unfolds the story of Sanjay Dutt and his personal life. This biopic is directed
by Rajkumar Hirani who has earlier directed films like Munna Bhai MBBS, LageRaho Munnabhai, 3 Idiots and PK. There is no need to say more about this man
who started his career as an Ad filmmaker and gave this industry such
blockbuster hits. You can view the trailer of Sanju here
Most of us know that Sanjay Dutt was put behind the
bars for carrying AK-56 without license. Public called him a terrorist, and
media played an important role in giving him this name. This film is a satire
on this only, that how can a person who was a film star was labelled as a terrorist
within a span of few days. Sanju is a story of that sad tale of his life. The Film
starts with Sanjay Dutt (Ranbir Kapoor), looking for a writer who can write his
life story to tell the world that he is not a terrorist. The movie depicts the
story of Sanjay Dutt when he was a teenager and his father was looking forward
to launch him in the Bollywood industry. As the film progresses, you will see
that how his life changed and here the change is not in a good sense. His
teenage life started with a bad phase and became worst day by day. It took him
a long time to realize that he has wasted too much time in all this. He became
a drug addict much before when he came into the industry and the film tells us
about the change which he had gone through in his life. From a drug addict to a
person whom we call us Sanju Baba. The film is full of both funny as well as emotional
sequences and some of the emotional sequences will even give you goosebumps
while you watch them. The first half of the film is about his life during those
days when he used to think nothing about his own life and family, all he cared
about was money, drugs and girls. And from that part to the last part of the
film where he comes out the the Yerwada Jail is a journey Rajkumar Hirnai was
trying to tell us. The nickname he got i.e. Sanju Baba is not something which
he carried all his life with a proud feeling, his past life was something which
we have never thought of and behind that name was a fight with himself.
Talking about the best parts of the film, as I stated
earlier the movie is full of emotional sequences, and one such sequence is when
Sanjay Dutt was sent by his father to rehabilitation centre for getting rid of
his drug addiction. That particular sequence is so beautifully depicted in the
film that you feel pity for Sanjay Dutt. And it’s necessary to say that the
scene looked so emotional because of two reasons. Firstly, the acting part of
Ranbir Kapoor and the Second reason was that particular song, Har Har MaidaanFateh. All these things coming together in that one particular scene made it
look more beautiful and emotional. Throughout the film he has acted so well
that in some scene you will forget that he is Ranbir Kapoor, you will feel like
that you are looking at Sanjay Dutt and he is acting in that film. Even small
reactions and actions are so perfectly acted by him that you will feel that if
Baba would have been in his place he would have reacted the same way. Before this
movie I was not a fan of Ranibr’s acting even after watching a movie like
Rockstar but this movie changed my whole point of view. His acting is flawless.
If we talk about the other actors, Paresh Rawal (played the role of Sunil Dutt)
and Vicky Kaushal (played the character of Sanjay Dutt’s friend) had played their
part so well that in some scenes they can make you cry. Especially there is one particular scene in which Vicky Kaushal has shown to us that how good he can be in his acting. There are many moments
in the film where the audience was enjoying at one moment and when an emotional
scene came the same audience was applauding them.
Apart from this, some small things which came into my
mind when I was watching the film were that it told the story not only of
Sanjay Dutt but also his Father. This was one of the best thing I liked about
the film. The film was not totally focused on the Sanjay Dutt. The film was
telling the story of a father too, as what struggle he faced during Sanjay’s
ups and downs. Before Rocky Nargis Dutt passed away, on one side Sunil Dutt’s
wife was in hospital and on the other side his son was into the clutches of
drugs. But the best thing about him was that he never gave up, he stood by his
son when he was taken by police after Mumbai bomb blasts and kept on fighting
till his son didn’t get the bail. Sanjay’s friend Kamlesh, was the first and
last person who was with him during all his phases, he was the one who took him
away from drugs and he was also the one who was struggling with Sanjay’s father
to get him out of the jail. Sanju is a film which will show you that silly
mistake which the public of this country commit. The film also gives the
message that whatever is printed in papers is not the only side of the story. It
subtly delivers the message that media and newspaper houses will print whatever
they want without paying heed to a person’s private life.
The film is a must watch alike other films of Rajkumar
Hirani.
